National Board Update: Rosh Chodesh Adar I!

Posted on February 9, 2016

Hi everyone!

On February 8th, 2016, we’ll be welcoming the new Jewish month of Adar I! Our monthly Rosh Chodesh updates will give you a spark of inspiration, and the TOP THREE moments that stood out to us from Regions all over NCSY. Get excited, will your region be featured next?!

Sparks of Explanation! (Don’t worry, there will be the usual Inspiration NEXT month!)

Adar is here, so Purim is near! Right?! Or maybe not. The month that begins tonight is Adar I, the first of TWO Adars we will be celebrating this year. Judaism operates according to a lunar-solar calendar, meaning that while the Jewish months are usually determined by the moon, every few years we have a leap year, and we add an extra Adar to ensure that the holiday of Passover falls out in the spring. This first Adar does not contain any holidays, so don’t worry, you still have a month and a half to decide on a Purim costume! And remember, MiSheNichnas Adar Marbim B’Simcha, from the moment Adar arrives, we INCREASE our happiness! Wishing everyone a very HAPPY Adar!!

NCSY Highlights!

NCSY is not just in your town, but it’s an international movement, inspiring and affecting teens just like ourselves all over the world. Check out some of our favorite moments from this past month…

  1. NCSY Skates! NCSY of Plainview hit the ice with an awesome skating event. They had a blast, whirling around the ice with friends new and old. Way to go, New York NCSY! Providence NCSY also had an incredible ice skating event with teens from all over the New England region! They had an incredible time with their unbelievable advisors!
  2. Southwest NCSY had an awesome Super Bowl Party, enjoying good food with great company. They’re also gearing up for their big fundraiser, the “Cow Raffle” where one can buy tickets to be entered into a raffle to win an entire kosher cow… yup, only in Southwest. But check it out here and support the awesome cause! Atlantic Seaboard ran a special super bowl halftime “show” featuring words of Torah from their Regional Director live streamed to YouTube.
  3.  Portland NCSYers enjoyed a Limopalooza event, riding around the city in style as they competed to win the scavenger hunt of a lifetime. What a way to enjoy Motzai Shabbat!

So there you have it, some inspiration, and an update on outstanding NCSY happenings around the world! Stay tuned for next month’s update!
