He was involved with JSU (NCSY's Jewish clubs in public schools) and NCSY throughout his high school years. In the summer of 2023, leading up to his senior year of high school, he became more religious—he began keeping Shabbos, davening three times a day, and observing kashrus. However, within his first few weeks there, he realized that while he had no trouble integrating into the community and maintaining the religious practices he had adopted after the summer, he felt that spending a year in yeshiva was something he truly needed. The Jewish community at Binghamton has already exposed him to aspects of Judaism and himself that he had never considered or explored before. Now, he recognizes how important this year is to find his own place as a young American Jew in today’s world. Ethan will be learning in the Old City of Yerushalyim next year at Yeshiva Oryta.
